ULFA-I Reveals Implanted "Bomb Locations", Causes Chaos; "Lawful investigation is ongoing" GP Singh

On August 15 2024, Assam faced a potential crisis as the infamous militant group United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) (ULFA-I) planned a major “protest” involving explosive materials. However it was disrupted by technical issues. In a dramatic turn, ULFA-I’s attempt to mark Indian Independence Day with a significant protest failed to achieve its intended impact due to technical problems. Instead, the group has publicly disclosed their plans, revealing the locations of numerous explosive devices planted across the state.

In their press release, ULFA-I shared their intended actions for the day, which included a protest from 6 AM to 12 PM. The group expressed their frustration that the protest could not proceed as planned, attributing the failure to technical difficulties. Asserting that their actions were part of their struggle against Indian sovereignty, ULFA-I revealed that they had planted bombs at various locations across Assam as part of their protest.

Due to these technical failures, the explosives did not detonate as intended. The group has since decided to make this information public, claiming it is for the welfare of the people. They have urged the authorities to locate and defuse the explosives to prevent any potential harm.

The locations identified by ULFA-I include:

4. Old bus at Assam State Transport Corporation, Dibrugarh

6. Old vehicle at Parade Ground (A Team Field), Lakhimpur
7. Old vehicle near Laluk Daily Market, IB area
8. Old vehicle covered with bushes near Borghat Police Outpost
9. Buried in mud near a brick kiln, Aditya Hospital, Nagaon Medical College road
10. Open ground opposite Dispur Last Gate
11. Transformer box on the road leading to Gandhi Mandap
12. Buried near the CDA gate, Naranpura
13. Under the old bridge across the Brahmaputra, Panbazar, Guwahati
14. Near the Jorabat Overbridge
15. Bhetapara
16. Maligaon
17. Bajali
18. Inside an old ambulance near Nalbari Medical College entrance road

Following the release of this information, Assam’s law enforcement agencies have been conducting thorough searches for the explosives. The authorities have taken the threat seriously and are working to ensure public safety.

DGP Assam Police, GP Singh, reported that extensive searches were carried out across the state. In Guwahati, suspicious items were found at two locations. These items, examined by the Bomb Disposal Squad, did not contain ignition devices, though circuits and batteries were present. The substances are undergoing forensic and chemical analysis. Similar items have been safely disposed off in Lakhimpur, Sivasagar, Nalbari, and Nagaon. A lawful investigation is ongoing.

ULFA-I is a separatist group with a long history of insurgency in Assam, advocating for an independent state for the Assamese people. Their activities have significantly impacted the region’s political landscape, making them a notable player in Assam’s struggle for autonomy.
