Undertrial Prisoner Commits Suicide Inside Silchar Central Jail

An undertrial prisoner, Pintu Rajput, allegedly died by suicide inside Silchar Central Jail, triggering concern over inmate safety. The incident took place in the early hours of Friday (March 28).

According to reports, Pintu Rajput, a resident of Kanchanpur, Silchar, was arrested around 10 days ago on charges of cattle theft. He was sent to judicial custody at Silchar Central Jail, where he was awaiting trial. Early this morning, he allegedly strangled himself with a piece of cloth inside his cell.

This incident has created a stir inside the jail, and questions need to be asked about the vigilance inside the jail.

Upon receiving the information, Silchar Sadar Police arrived at the jail, recovered the body, and took it for a post-mortem examination at Silchar Medical College and Hospital.

The reason behind his suicide remains unclear, and the police have launched an investigation into the incident.
