
Unrest in Chamragudam area, police fires two rounds to control the situation
Situation again getting volatile in Barak Valley’s Kalibari Chor and its adjoining areas. Thursday night, violence erupted in Chamragudam between two particular communities. Heavy police force was deployed immediately to curtail the unrest. But a police official got brutally injured, and eventually police had to resort to firing two rounds of rubber bullets to bring the situation under control.
Superintendent of police, Rakesh Roushan informed us that the situation is under control at this stage but the administration is on high alert and will fire again if needed.
According to sources few locals got injured, and Police took a few into custody too, “Since its a sensitive issue we would like to keep the names of the arrested a secret,” said a senior police official. Our reporter spoke to few eyewitnesses on the spot and they said it started with stone pelting between two communities late Thursday night (April 12, 2018) and the firing took place around 12 midnight.
SP Rakesh Roushan urged people to maintain peace, he said nobody is identified yet and people must not spread rumours.
