Update: Four From Same Family Dead in Tragic Ranighat Accident; Road Block Withdrawn
The devastating road accident that occurred in Ranighat on Silchar-Kalain Road, claimed the lives of four family members in a head-on collision between a Bolero Pick-up truck and a Bajaj Auto on Monday morning. The accident happened around 11 AM when the Bolero (registration number AS11DC8472) headed towards Kalain collided with the auto-rickshaw (registration number AS11EC5669) carrying the family en route to Silchar Medical College.
The deceased include Jakir Hussain (50), his wife Rezia Begum (45), their daughter Rehana Begum (21), and son Amir Hussain (25), all residents of Bhairabpur in Kalain.
Heartbreakingly, Rehana was due to be married next week. The impact of the collision was so severe that it threw all passengers out of the auto, killing the family members instantly and leaving the vehicle severely deformed.
The auto driver, Tahir Hussain, survived but is critically injured and currently receiving treatment in the ICU at Silchar Medical College.
News of the accident led to a surge of grief and anger in the community. An outraged crowd gathered at the accident site, blocking the Silchar-Kalain road for nearly three hours, demanding immediate action from authorities. The road was cleared after Superintendent of Cachar Police Numal Mahatta arrived and assured the locals that their concerns would be addressed. Community members are calling for the installation of speed breakers along this stretch to prevent similar incidents in the future.
