VDP Stops Mosque Robbery in Progress, Suspect Arrested in Kalain

A man named Suresh Chakraborty was caught red-handed while attempting to steal money from the donation box of a mosque in Kalain, Cachar district. The incident took place on the night of 12 September at the Jamma Mosque in Dhumkar, Kalain, and was captured on CCTV cameras installed at the mosque premises.

According to sources, the village defence party (VDP) was patrolling the area when they noticed suspicious activity near the mosque. Upon closer inspection, they discovered that Chakraborty was in the act of stealing money from the mosque’s donation box. The VDP immediately apprehended him and recovered the stolen cash.

Chakraborty later confessed that he had broken the lock on the donation box using a rod he had found nearby. CCTV footage confirmed his involvement in the theft, showing him clearly stealing money from the mosque. Despite being caught in the act, Chakraborty assured authorities that he had not been mistreated by anyone present during his apprehension.

Following his confession, both the mosque committee and the VDP contacted local police, who promptly arrived on the scene and took Chakraborty into custody.

Interestingly, this is not an isolated case. On the same night, another mosque in the area reported a similar theft from its donation box. Authorities are investigating whether the same individual was involved in both incidents.
