Vehicle Movements Restricted in Silchar-Kalain Road from today, Sinking Zone around Shibbari
In response to the Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD) forecast of heavy to very heavy rainfall and worsening weather conditions, authorities have issued a restriction on the movement of heavy vehicles in the sinking zone area of Silchar-Kalain Road. The River Barak has already surpassed the danger level before 3 PM today, prompting immediate action to mitigate risks in Tarapur, Silchar’s vulnerable Shibbari sinking zone.
The restriction, effective from 6:00 PM on May 29, 2024, applies to the Raigarh, Daspara, and Shibbari areas. This decision, mandated by District Magistrate Rohan Kumar Jha under Section 30 (2) (i), (v) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, aims to ensure safety and prevent potential disasters. This was released in an order published by the Office of the District Commissioner Cachar and the District Disaster Management Authority.
Authorities have been directed to enforce this order strictly, and it will remain in place until further notice. Residents and commuters are advised to stay informed about weather updates and follow official guidelines to ensure their safety.
This precautionary measure underscores the local administration’s commitment to managing disaster risks and protecting the community amid challenging weather conditions.
