Verse Pe Verse to donate 100% gate revenue from Karwaan 3.0 to National Defence Fund
India is still weeping. The dastardly attack on Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on February 14 has left the country in a state of shock. As many as 44 CRPF personnel lost their lives and their families left to mourn. Since last night, several protested with rallies, burning effigies of the perpetrators while the news broadcasters stretched their bulletins beyond prime time, demanding a retaliation. Social media has also been flooded with hashtags like ‘Badla’ and ‘Pakistan Murdabad’.
Silchar based cultural organisation Verse-pe-verse, with intentions to share the sorrow of the families of the security personnel, who lost their lives yesterday, has decided to contribute for their welfare. The group announced that it will donate 100 percent of its gate revenue that it earns from the tickets of Karwaan 3.0 to National Defence Fund. Karwaan is a popular open mic event which is now in its third edition, scheduled to take place on February 22, 2019, at Gandhi Bhavan in Silchar.
“The nation rests in the arms of these heroes. They serve us all their lives. It is time we serve them,” is what Verse-Pe-Verse uploaded on its social media pages. Many participants from all three districts of Barak Valley will exhibit their talent on stage. To attend the event, one needs to buy a ticket for Rs 10. Whatever amount verse-pe-verse generates from the ticket revenue, it will transfer the whole to National Defence Fund.
Founder of verse-pe-verse, Hrijoy Das Kanungo states, “The entire nation is gutted, this bloodshed is sad and should not be tolerated at any cost. While the mood of the nation at this stage is to give a befitting response to the perpetrators of the Pulwama terror attacks, we thought of a way we could send a message to our soldiers in the defence that we are with you. And thus we decided that we will donate whatever amount we generate by selling our tickets to the National Defence Fund.”
President of the organisation, Jnanendra Das adds, “The IED blast which happened last day is not tolerable at all. 44 of our brothers were killed yesterday. We’ve been silent always and it’s time that we do something. Our brothers shed their blood every day for the peace of the country. What they do for our country is really priceless. So we’ve decided to extend our very minimum help to the families of those who lost their lives for us.”
A huge number of performers have already registered themselves to get a slot on stage. The first edition of Karwaan was held on November 13 and had a packed hall. The second edition of the one-evening show took place at Goldighi Mall and garnered appreciation from all corners. The organisers have decided to go back to Gandhi Bhawan for the third edition and is expecting a bigger turnout of both spectators and performers.
