Vote BJP or Lose Orunodoi Benefits, Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah Warns Minorities in Dholai
While District Election Officer cum the District Commissioner of Cachar is absorbed in flying sky lanterns, hydrogen balloons and bursting crackers for voter awareness and a “free and fair” election, open defiance of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) goes on in the open. Cachar’s “Guardian Minister” and star campaigner for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Jayanta Mallabaruah has violated the MCC, not just once. First, he appeased the minority voters with a threat of shutting down their shops if not voted for the BJP. Then the BJP was allegedly distributing cash to buy votes in Dholai and in a latest stint to make things clear about the value of democratic elections in Assam, Mallabaruah has now allegedly stated that welfare schemes for the vulnerable sections will only be available for the BJP voters.
“If you vote for the BJP, I’ll give you Orunodoi benefits, and if you don’t, I won’t give it to you. If you want Orunodoi, then vote for the BJP.” With these words, Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah reportedly tried to intimidate minority voters in Dholai.
During a campaign yesterday (November 10) in Jamalpur, a minority-dominated area of Dholai, he is once again alleged to have threatened voters, linking their access to Orunodoiand ration cards to support for the BJP.
While attending a BJP election campaign in Jamalpur, Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah reportedly stated, “If you vote for the BJP, I’ll give you Orunodoi and ration cards, and if you don’t, I won’t.”
He went on to say that if Jamalpur doesn’t deliver more than 4,000 votes for the BJP, he would refuse to sign off on files for Orunodoi and ration cards, claiming, “I’m the guardian minister; without my signature, no one receives Orunodoi benefits.”
Allegedly, he made these remarks with a laugh, publicly threatening the people of Jamalpur to sway their votes. It seemed just like any other day for the hate-spewing politician.
