Wall painting drive in Silchar; Court is getting beautified
The walls of Silchar Court is turning into a visual delight. It is certain to attract the selfie lovers in coming days. The District Legal Services Authority, Cachar in collaboration with District Judiciary organised a “Wall Painting Drive” which would transform the walls of the court premises. The drive started today morning and about 20-25 artisans were spotted with paint brushes and pencils.
“The main motive is to beautify the court complex. The Judicial Magistrate and the court administration took the initiative and we already have participants from various art schools of Silchar. Assam University Silchar’s Fine Arts department also sent their representatives to take part in the drive,” says a senior court official.
“Justice based artworks” and “Culture of Barak Valley” is the brief given to the participants, who now have the responsibility of executing this. The wall painting drive will continue throughout the day today and tomorrow. A large number of spectators too gathered to see the artisans painting the walls. The administration expressed its gratitude to Conscientious Art Fraternity of Silchar for its support.
A 70-something local resident, who was watching the artisans paint says he was mesmerised by the way the painters were able to transform the walls, “They are putting in a shift under the afternoon sun and their creativity is leaving me awestruck. It is a great initiative from the Court administration and it would be nice if more government offices indulge in similar initiatives to beautify their public-facing walls. I hope people of Silchar would refrain from spitting on the well-painted walls, the pan and gutka stains will spoil it all,” he says.
It is worth mentioning here that recently, the walls of Women’s College were painted and now portraits of Mother Teresa, Rabindranath Tagore and others stand tall on the fence. The wall painting drive is becoming popular in all the states across the country and as it turns out it is becoming a trend in Silchar too.
