Ward Commissioner lodges complaint for not accepting 10 rupees coin

For the second time in Silchar, a complaint has been filed against vendors for not accepting 10 rupees coin, which is a legal tender across the nation. The complaint has been filled by Commissioner of ward 19, Rakhi Choudhury, against a shop owner, Biswajit Deb, for allegedly not accepting 10 rupees coin.

It was learnt that Rakhi Choudhury, on last Sunday went to a shop on College road for getting a recharge on her mobile phone. She recharged for amount 170. She gave a 10 rupees coin along with other notes to the vendor but the latter denied to accept it saying the coins are not accepted. The vendor also allegedly argued with the ward commissioner asking whether she is new in Silchar where 10 rupees coins are not ‘allowed’.

Rakhi Choudhury has confirmed the incident to Barak Bulletin in a telephonic conversation and said she has written to the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar asking for necessary action against the vendor. She has also sent a copy of the letter to the President of Consumer Forum Cachar for his information and necessary action.

It can be mentioned here that, a similar complaint was filed a week earlier when the cash counter of Silchar Metro Bazar refused to accept 10 rupees coin from a customer.
