We support delimitation but will protest if modalities aren't followed : APCC president Bhupen Bora in Silchar

Assam Pradesh Congress will support the delimitation process. The entire process will be closely monitored by the party. This announcement was made by the President of the State Congress, Bhupen Bora at a press conference in Silchar. Bora said that a high-level committee of the party has already been formed to keep an eye on the delimitation process.

Earlier, BJP, AGP along with AASU were opposing the delimitation process on the pretext of a corrected NRC. Bora said as BJP is proceeding with the delimitation process, that means they have accepted the NRC.

Speaking to reporters about delimitation Bora said, “We welcome the proposal of BJP government at the state and centre to start the delimitation process. A high-powered expert committee of our party has been formed with Rokibul Hossain, Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, and other senior leaders as its members to look after the delimitation process following the modalities of the Election Commission. We will extend our cooperation if rules and guidelines are followed. If by any means modalities are attempted to be broken then we will register our protest through legal or democratic means.”

Speaking on the recent demise of Barak Valley Congress veterans Radhe Shyam Upadhyay and Karnendu Bhattacharjee, Bora told, “Many people join Congress and leave. But Radhe Shyam Upadhyay and Karnendu Bhattacharjee were our pillars for the party. Especially Karnendu Bhattacharjee was the district President of Cachar for a long time and a strong voice for Barak Valley in Assam Assembly. Even on Rajya Sabha floor too he raised the problems of our entire state. In a true sense, we lost a guardian of our party. We were hoping that his mortal remains would be transported to Guwahati but it didn’t become possible due to unavoidable circumstances. We decided that we would visit his house and pay tribute to him and sympathise with his family.”

State Congress President Bhupen Bora, opposition leader Debabrata Saikia and Rokibul Hussain were present today in Silchar for attending various programmes of the party.
