Wearing mask compulsory in Cachar; Violation will cost a fine of Rs 1000

The Cachar police is announcing all across Silchar town that it has been made compulsory for residents to wear masks. The announcement states that the number of COVID cases in the district is witnessing a spike and therefore, it has been mandatory to wear masks.

“It is clear that the disease spreads faster when the general public is moving around without masks. So, for the best interest of the general public, it has been decided that wearing of mask is compulsory and at the same time, if someone violates the order, a fine will be imposed,” said Additional SP, Cachar, Jagadish Das.

According to the announcement made by Cachar Police, a fine of Rs 1000 will be imposed on the violators.

Deputy commissioner of Cachar, Keerthi Jalli informed that it has been mandated by the state government to impose fine of Rs 1000. “Would request public to please cooperate and understand that the second wave needs to be fought by standing together unitedly by wearing masks, avoiding travel, using sanitisers, and checking on individual health stats. Individuals need to isolate if any symptoms develop. We need to break the chain of transmission,” asserted the deputy commissioner.

It is worth mentioning here that 21 individuals have tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday and 22 are admitted to Silchar Medical College and Hospital. As per Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, all elementary schools in districts with more than 100 active cases must remain shut. Cachar has more than 150 active cases.

Cachar Police, in its announcement also stated that the citizens must follow social distancing.
