Week-long celebration to commemorate Lachit Borphukan’s 400th Birth Anniversary kickstarts in Cachar

The Cachar District Administration has planned a week-long program on the occasion of Lachit Diwas. To commemorate the 400th Birth Anniversary of the braveheart General of Assam, Lachit Borphukan the week-long celebration started in Cachar along with the rest of the state with a march-past. Army and police bands participated in the march along with several troupes of cadets. The Deputy Commissioner of Cachar announced the list of events that is on the list today morning during the march. 

In a media statement, the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar IAS Rohan Kumar Jha said, “Today we started with the march past which was organised by Cachar Polie, tomorrow we have an essay writing competition for the school students. On November 20, there is a blood donation camp and a Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in the town. Again on November 21, there is a sketching, painting or drawing competition among the school children. On November 22 we will organise a food drive at various organisations like the Central Jail, SMCH, SMDCH, Nivedita Nari Sangstha and the old age homes. There will be a symposium at Gandhi Bhawan on November 22 where historians and experts will have sessions about the importance and the contribution of Lachit Borphukon in the history of Assam. On November 23 evening there will be a cultural rally representing various communities and tribes of Assam along with their tradition and folk songs and culture. Again on the next evening, that is, November 24 there will be a cultural evening and the week-long programme will conclude on November 25 where we will live telecast the central program. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will present his address on this day”.

About the cultural rally the SP Cachar, APS Numal Mahatta said, “Today we have held the smart march in respect to the fighting spirit and bravery of the great General Lachit Borphukan. It was because of his fighting spirit that he could defeat the Mughals 17 times. This brave sacrifice inspires us and the entire force to work harder and make society better every day”.

Various troupes of the Assam Police participated in the rally, including the marching band and bagpipe band of the Assam Police. CRPF, BSF and Cadets of NCC also participated in the march past which marched the town today morning.
