While returning from Iftar invitation, female dies due to electrocution on Mahasadak, 2 critical

In a tragic turn of affairs, a woman lost life after getting electrocuted in the middle of the road in Mahasadak. The incident took place today evening in Lathigram, Jhuripaar area in Silchar – Haflong Mahasadak.

According to available information, Runu Begum Barbhuiya and her husband Teramoni Barbhuiya had gone to Lathigram for Iftaar (evening meal during the holy month of Ramzan). “They went to the paternal house of Runu Begum Barbhuiya to attend the Iftar invitation. While returning to Aligram, they met with an accident,” informed father of Teramoni Barbhuiya.

The husband and wife were returning in an auto rickshaw which Bappan Hussain was riding. A Hyundai Creta overtook them at the Mahasadak and went on to hit a utility pole supporting high tension power lines. The pole collapsed and the wire fell on the auto rickshaw.

A fire broke in the auto rickshaw due to the electrocution and burnt down to ashes. The tragic accident claimed the life of Runu Begum Barbhuiya on the spot. Teramoni Barbhuiya and Bappon Laskar have been rushed to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital in critical condition.

Engines from fire and emergency services rushed to the spot and doused the flames. OC Udharbond also went to the spot to take stock of the situation.
