"Will use force and evict," Railway Department's strict warning to Tarapur residents, 10-day-deadline issued

Verbally, GM Northeast Frontier Railways, Anshul Gupta’s team had made it clear – Estate Department will drive bulldozers to free the Indian Railways’ land from all sorts of encroachment. Such verbal warnings are not new for the people living in the stretch between India Club and Tarapur Athletic Club. But this time, the Estate Department of NF Railways is determined and has taken the local elected representatives into confidence.

After verbal warnings, the Estate Department has now handed out notices with a 10-day-deadline. The estate officer in his order mentions, “All persons who may be in occupation of the said premises or any part thereof to vacate the said premises within 10 (ten) days of the date of publication of this order.”

The estate officer goes on to add, “In the event of refusal or failure to comply with this order within the period specified above you and all other persons, concerned are liable to be evicted from the said premises, if need be, by the use of such force as may be necessary.”

If sources are to be believed, 170 families including that of business enterprises will have to vacate the land they have been living for decades. Around 85 residences have been identified to be in the encroached zones and if they do not vacate within 10 days, Railways will use force and launch an eviction drive.
