With 312, Cachar reports all-time highest daily spike in COVID cases; Death toll rises to 2

Cachar reported 312 COVID cases on Saturday setting a new record of one-day detection. Earlier, according to reports, 303 was the highest number of cases detected in one day. The district health department informed that 114 samples tested positive on RT-PCR while 198 samples tested positive on RAT.

Since the beginning of second-wave, which according to the Cachar district administration was on April 1, 2545 individuals have tested positive for COVID 19 while 1545 recovered. Currently, there are 981 active cases in Cachar.

Along with Silchar Medical College and Hospital, Silchar Civil Hospital, Green Heals Hospital, Cachar Cancer Hospital, Gracewell Hospital are treating COVID patients. There are 725 individuals in Home Isolation who are positive for COVID19.

The district administration informed that 2631 samples were tested on Rapid Antigen Test kit out of which, 198 tested positive.

Two individuals died at SMCH’s COVID ward today. Jyostna Chakraborty has succumbed a little while ago. Jyostna Chakraborty is 54-year-old resident of Tarapur Silchar and has a history of traveling from Kolkata one week back prior to admission. She is known hypertensive, was admitted on April 25 with fever and shortness of breath for two days.

“She presented with 77% oxygen saturation and was admitted in ICU. She was diagnosed with Covid pneumonia. During her period of stay, she had to be put on a non-invasive ventilator for many days on failure to maintain oxygen via a face mask. She was severely anemic too. She developed AKI with sepsis during her stay and she expired today at 8 pm,” stated the medical bulletin.

The other deceased is Mahibur Rahaman Barbhuiya, a 60-year-old resident of Panchayat Road in Cachar district who has been declared dead today and is the only patient to have succumbed at the COVID block of the hospital. The Medical bulletin informed that he is diabetic and hypertensive on medications and was presented with fever, cough, and Shortness of Breath for four days.

“He was diagnosed to be a case of Covid pneumonia. He presented with oxygen saturation in blood 63 % on oxygen and was initially admitted in the ward and later shifted to ICU. He had to be put on Non-Invasive Ventilator on being unable to maintain oxygen and had to be intubated today and put on a mechanical ventilator. He expired today at 6.00 pm,” stated the Medical Bulletin.
