Women’s Safety and RG Kar Tribute Inspire Apostles Kali Puja’s Powerful Theme
Silchar’s Malugram-based The Apostles Kali Puja Committee is gearing up for its 43rd annual Kali Puja celebration, unveiling a theme that highlights women’s safety and empowerment. The committee has drawn inspiration from the recent incident at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College to create a pandal that raises awareness on women’s protection while urging justice and respect for women in society.
In a press conference on Sunday, committee members discussed their preparations, sharing that this year’s theme is a departure from their usual focus on environmental conservation. The theme, they explained, is aimed at educating the community on gender equality and women’s rights, with a particular emphasis on safety. The committee intends to bring in prominent women leaders, including activists and doctors, to inaugurate the puja.
“We’re taking a bold step this year to ensure our theme resonates with the public,” a committee member stated. “Our pandal not only addresses the RG Kar incident but extends to the broader message of women’s safety and empowerment.”
The pandal will feature a live show, showcasing the fierce forms of Goddess Kali, symbolising strength and protection. In a unique touch, the committee is also holding a children’s art competition on women’s safety, with winning entries displayed as part of the pandal decor.
To execute their ambitious vision, decorators from Nabadwip have been engaged to enhance the visual storytelling, and the committee promises a memorable experience with Maha Prasad for visitors. Attendees are invited to join in support of the cause, celebrating Kali Puja while recognising the importance of standing for women’s security.
Through this socially-conscious theme, The Apostles Kali Puja Committee hopes to deliver a powerful message, encouraging the public to reflect on women’s safety and come together for a cause that affects everyone in society.
