Youth mercilessly beaten in Hailakandi for trying to rob, DGP orders Police to take lawful action against perpetrators

Another heinous incident of moral policing in the state came to light today. A youth was brutally beaten up for trying to steal from a house. The incident took place in Nojmul Haque Laskar’s house located in Krishnapur Bazar of Katlicherra constituency under Hailakandi district.

Laskar caught the youth red handed while trying to steal. Instead of handing him over to the Police, Laskar took law in his own hands and beat the accused youth mercilessly by tying him to a tree and cut his hair. He also peed on the youth and recorded the entire video on his mobile phone which became viral on facebook. The video has created a sensation in Hailakandi.

Many organisations of the district have already condemned the heinous incident. They have demanded the Police to arrest Laskar for moral policing.

Meanwhile taking cognizance of the incident Assam DGP GP Singh has asked Hailakandi Police to take lawful action against the perpetrator(s) immediately. The DGP wrote on Facebook and Twitter, “Reference viral video from Hailakandi of a person being tortured – SP @HailakandiPolic has been instructed to take lawful action immediately.”
