Zonal Level Workshop on Dairy entrepreneurship held in Silchar

The zonal level workshop on Dairy entrepreneurship development scheme DEDS, a flagship scheme of Govt of India was held at Silchar on September 11, 2019. The workshop covered bankers from Cachar and Hailakandi districts.

Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri inagurated the workshop. In her speech, Madduri underscored the importance of implementing the scheme across both the districts as per priority of the government.

Dept of Animal Husbandry of the Govt has extended financial help to a lot of farmers elsewhere. Unfortunately, there are no quality milk processing unit here and steps are being taken to come up with milk processing unit. Milk Unions must work sincerely to maximise production and help generate employment, she pointed it out in her speech.

She sought support from stakeholders in achieving the goals. S. R Samantara, Deputy General Manager, NABARD, elaborated on the framework and highlighted the major objectives of the scheme. He said that steps are being taken to maximise income of the farmers engaged in milk rearing along with modernising the dairy sector using latest infrastructure with backward and forward linkage, availability of water and land, higher price for the produce and upgraded infrastructure facilities in veterinary sector.

He further said that since Assam is lagging behind the proper implementation of the scheme, the activity has to be carried out on a mission mode.

A PPT presentation on the various dimensions of DEDS was made by Sri L.Naocha Singh, DDM, NABARD, Cachar & Hailakandi and an interactive session with bankers was also held.

The workshop concluded with an action plan meant for the stake holders including Banks and line holders for proper implementation and of the scheme.
