
Fatal Night Accident at Binnakandi Ghat Claims 60-Year-Old Woman’s Life, Three Critical
A 60-year-old woman died, and three others, including a pregnant woman, were seriously injured after a passenger auto-rickshaw collided head-on with a stone-laden dumper truck at Binnakandi Ghat in Lakhipur, Cachar, late at night (8 February).
The deceased has been identified as Manju Phulmalai. According to reports, she was travelling in the auto with her pregnant daughter to take her to the hospital when the accident occurred on the Phulertal-Sonai connecting road. Their vehicle reportedly collided with an oncoming dumper carrying stones.
The impact left four people in the auto critically injured, including Phulmalai, her pregnant daughter, another woman passenger, and the driver. They were immediately taken to a nearby hospital. However, doctors declared Phulmalai dead during treatment.
Due to the serious condition of the pregnant woman and the other injured passengers, they were later referred to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for advanced care.
The incident caused panic in the area and drew the attention of locals. Police have detained the dumper involved in the accident, and further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the collision.
