Finally Reunited: Silchar Woman With Alzheimer’s Goes Missing Twice, Found In Golaghat
A woman from Silchar suffering from Alzheimer’s went missing twice in the span of three days, raising serious questions about police accountability and hospital negligence in Golaghat.
The woman, identified as Sikta Chakraborty (Moni), aged between 55 and 60, is a resident of Shivalik Park, Jagannath Sevashram Lane, Uttarkrishnapur Part 3, Silchar. She has a medical history of Alzheimer’s and two prior strokes.
According to her family, Sikta first went missing from Silchar on August 16, around 5:30 pm. Despite extensive searches, she could not be traced, following which a missing complaint was lodged with the Cachar Police.
Two days later, on August 18, Golaghat police informed the family that she had been found in Golaghat and admitted to Golaghat Civil Hospital in a frail condition. Officer Dilip Kr. Chutiya of Golaghat Police Station assured the family that Sikta was under police supervision. Acting on this, her son and relatives rushed to Golaghat and reached the hospital on the morning of August 19.
However, to their shock, Sikta was missing again. Despite being under police and hospital care, she reportedly disappeared from the hospital toilet in the morning. “I left from the hospital at 10 PM last night (August 18). I talked with her and showed her son’s photo, informing her that he was on his way. Later this morning, she went to the toilet but took a very long time. When our police team checked the toilet booths, she was missing again. I immediately went out searching with other teams and informed nearby stations,” OC Golaghat Barak Bulletin over phone.
After hours of frantic search, Sikta was finally located by her son, Priyangshu Chakraborty, around 5 PM today (August 19) near a roadside in Golaghat. “I was also searching in the area when I spotted her. Thankfully, she is safe now,” Priyangshu told Barak Bulletin.
At the time of filing this report, Sikta is with her family and undergoing basic medical check-ups before being taken back to Silchar.
