Four Youths Brutally Assaulted by Mob in Silchar on Suspicion of Goat Theft; FIR Filed

In a deeply disturbing incident, four youths were brutally assaulted by a mob in the Kanchanpur area of Silchar on suspicion of goat theft. The incident, which occurred on Saturday evening (July 12), has sparked outrage. The triggering incident was partially captured on video and showed scenes that resembled a public spectacle of celebration, more than an act of justice.

According to sources, the youths from the Ashram Road and College Road area of Silchar were first locked inside a room, where they were mercilessly beaten. They were later dragged out and handed over to an unruly mob, which continued the assault. The victims had their hands tied and were subjected to such inhumane torture that they eventually lost consciousness.

Locals claimed the four were allegedly caught in the act of attempting to steal a goat, but the level of violence inflicted drew sharp criticism, with many questioning the role of bystanders and the lack of immediate police intervention.

Upon receiving information, police personnel rushed to the spot and rescued the youths from the mob’s clutches. All four were immediately shifted to Silchar Medical College and Hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment. Their condition has been reported as critical.

Meanwhile, the families of the victims have filed an FIR at the National Highway Patrol Post, demanding justice and strict action against those involved in the assault.

This is yet another incident of mob justice and vigilantism. Stronger legal enforcement needs to be in place to prevent such barbaric acts. Police have launched an investigation in this regard.
