“Hajar Konthe Zubeen: Barak Valley To Sing In Unison For The Legend’s Birthday
Preparations are in full swing across the Barak Valley for a historic celebration of the late music legend Zubeen Garg’s birthday — the first without him on earth. Under the theme “Hajar Konthe Zubeen Garg” (A Thousand Voices for Zubeen Garg), a grand cultural tribute organised by the Cultural Fraternity of Barak Valley will be held on November 18 from 4 PM at the DSA Ground, Silchar.
At a press conference on Friday (October 31), the organisers announced that the event will serve not just as a birthday celebration but as a powerful expression of love, remembrance, and cultural unity for the beloved artist. “Zubeen Garg is not just a singer — he is an emotion, the voice of a generation. On his birthday, his iconic song Mayabini will resonate through a thousand voices,” said one of the organisers, Surajit Shome.
They further emphasised that the programme is free and open to all — no tickets, no donations.
“If anyone asks for donations, please refrain from giving,” they appealed.
“Everyone who loves Zubeen is both the president and the secretary. This is a people’s event,” said Rajat Ghosh. “There will be no invitation cards. Whoever thinks of Zubeen as their own is invited to come”
The event will be led by popular singer Debojit Saha, often hailed as the voice of Barak. It is being organised by the Cultural Fraternity of Barak Valley, a collective effort of several socio-cultural organisations and individuals united in celebrating the heartthrob Zubeen Garg — this time, in his absence but with unending love.
“We are grateful to the District Sports Association for their support. This event is truly for the people and by the people,” said Surojit Shome, while DSA President Shibabrata Dutta and Joyjit Biswas also expressed their wholehearted support for the initiative during the press meet.
