Helmet for Violators, Rose for Rule Followers as Cachar Police Push Road Safety
As part of National Road Safety Month, Cachar District Police on Friday (January 16) carried out a special awareness-driven naka checking at the Sadarghat area in Silchar, aiming to promote safer driving habits and reduce road accident fatalities.
The initiative was organised by the Traffic Branch of Cachar Police, where drivers following traffic rules were felicitated with rose flowers, while two-wheeler riders found without helmets were provided free helmets. Police officials also administered a road safety pledge to motorists during the drive.
Speaking on the occasion, Cachar Senior Superintendent of Police Partha Protim Das said, “January 2026 is National Road Safety Month. In this regard, we have conducted a special awareness check in the Sadarghat area of Silchar, where we are distributing helmets to those without them and encouraging them to take a pledge. Those who wear seatbelts and helmets and abide by traffic rules are being given a rose. This is Road Safety Month, and we will continue this drive under various police stations to reduce fatalities related to road accidents.”
He further emphasised that merely imposing fines is not enough to curb road accidents, and sustained public awareness is key. Motorists were urged to wear helmets and seat belts, adhere to speed limits, avoid drunk driving, and refrain from using mobile phones while driving.
The initiative drew attention from city residents, with senior officials from the District Transport Department and the Silchar Excise Department also present during the programme.
