High-Speed Corridor to Pass Through 45 Villages in Cachar, DC Warns Against Fresh Construction

The ambitious 4-Lane Greenfield Alignment, a proposed high-speed corridor under the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), is set to traverse 45 villages across Cachar district, according to a notification issued by the office of the District Commissioner, Cachar.

The notification makes it clear that any new construction or developmental activity within the designated alignment area will require prior permission from the DC’s office, LA Branch, Silchar. The administration has also cautioned that any unauthorised structures, temporary or permanent, erected after the issuance of the notice will be deemed ineligible for compensation during the process of land acquisition or project implementation.

The alignment, which covers areas such as Salimabad, Chandinagar, Karaikandi, Jagadishpur, Rajyeswarpur, Chandipur, Paikan, Talkar Grant, Khelma, Lakhicherra Khasia Punjee, Bhairabpur, Lakhipur, Baraitoli, and Rajagarh Khasia Punjee, among others, is seen as a crucial infrastructural push aimed at improving connectivity and expediting movement across the region.

The order has come into immediate effect from the date of publication. Both private individuals and commercial establishments have been urged to adhere strictly to the directive, as non-compliance would not only affect compensation eligibility but could also hamper the pace of the project.

The Greenfield highway, once operational, is expected to ease pressure on existing routes, provide a faster corridor for inter-district and inter-state travel, and contribute significantly to the socio-economic development of the Barak Valley region.

This was stated in a press release issued by the Regional Office of Information & Public Relations, Barak Valley Zone, Silchar, Assam.
