Husband of Pregnant Woman Allegedly Assaulted by Security Guards Inside Silchar Medical College, FIR Filed
A disturbing incident was reported from Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) on Friday, early morning (December 19) at around 3:30 AM, where a man who had come with his pregnant wife for delivery was allegedly assaulted by hospital security personnel. The victim, Amit Baishnab of the Gumrah area under Kalain Police Station, sustained serious injuries and later filed a police complaint.
According to Amit, he had admitted his pregnant wife to the gynaecology ward on Thursday. Around 3 AM (Friday), after hearing cries from outside the ward, he stepped out and allegedly saw a security guard beating a young boy. Amit claimed that when he protested against the assault, the security personnel, along with their associates, turned on him and allegedly beat him brutally with sticks.
Amit further alleged that security guards routinely misbehave with and assault male attendants near the gynaecology ward during night hours. On the night of the incident, he claimed another young boy was also assaulted by the guards and his mobile phone was damaged. When Amit attempted to protest and record the incident on his phone, he was allegedly attacked by the security staff.
He also alleged that the guards tried to drag him to their office. Amid panic and loud protests by patients and attendants near the maternity ward, Amit somehow managed to escape from the spot and save his life despite being injured.
Later, Amit lodged an FIR at the Ghungoor Outpost, naming three accused—Abdul, Rajen and Rajesh. Whether the SMCH authorities hired goons instead of security is a question that needs to be asked.
