Kalain: Class 5 Student Found Dead in Suspected Hanging Case

A Class 5 student was declared dead after she was found hanging from a ceiling fan inside her home in Kalain, Cachar district, triggering shock and grief across the area.

The deceased has been identified as Geeta Baishnav, a student of Wisdom Senior Secondary School in Kalain. Her family is originally from Gumra Nalugram and had reportedly been living in a rented house on Kalain College Road.

According to preliminary information, Geeta was alone inside the house for some time while her mother had gone to a neighbouring house. When her mother returned, she reportedly found the door locked from inside. She then sought help from others to open the door and found the child hanging from the ceiling fan.

The family and neighbours immediately took her to Kalain Hospital, where doctors declared her dead. Geeta’s father, Parthajit Baishnav, works as a driver, according to local sources.

The exact circumstances surrounding the child’s death remain unclear. No confirmed reason behind the incident has been established so far, and the family has not publicly stated what may have led to the tragedy.
