King Cobra Rescued From Duarbond After Two-Day Operation

A King Cobra was successfully rescued from Duarbond following a two-day operation led by Assam University researcher and wildlife rescuer Ankur Nandi, with assistance from local residents and the Assam Forest Department.

According to Nandi, he received a call on June 11 about a King Cobra that had taken shelter inside a tunnel beneath the bedroom floor of a resident’s house in Duarbond. He attempted to bring the snake out without causing any harm by using water and smoke.

However, the tunnel was extensive and the snake remained inside despite several hours of effort. Nandi then closed the tunnel, leaving a single exit open for the snake, and left the area.

On June 12, Nandi received another call informing him that the snake had emerged from the tunnel and was sitting near a field close to the house. He returned to the location and began a rescue operation.

The rescue took around three hours and was carried out in rainy and muddy conditions. With the cooperation of local residents, the King Cobra was eventually brought under control and safely rescued.

Nandi said the snake was later released in a protected habitat with the cooperation of the Assam Forest Department.

Speaking about the operation, Nandi said wildlife rescue efforts are aimed at ensuring the safety of both people and animals while preventing harm to protected species.

Nandi is a researcher at Assam University and is also involved in rescuing snakes and other wildlife.
