Love Jihad Allegation Triggers Bajrang Dal Action in Silchar, Youth in Custody

A youth was detained by members of the Bajrang Dal at a cinema hall in Silchar on Wednesday (July 1) following serious allegations of religious deception and the exploitation of a minor. The incident, which took place at the Goldighi Mall, has created significant tension in the city.

According to the allegations, the accused, identified as Sujoy Barbhuiya from the Dudhpatil area, had reportedly concealed his religious identity to initiate a romantic relationship with a Hindu minor girl. Complainants allege that the youth posed as a member of the Hindu community to deceive the girl and engaged in a prolonged relationship under these false pretences. It is further alleged that the accused had physical relations with the minor during this period.

Upon receiving information about the pair’s location, activists from the Bajrang Dal launched an operation at the cinema hall. The group confronted the youth while he was watching a film with the minor. During the confrontation, the activists physically assaulted the youth inside the premises before notifying the police.

Local police arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and took the youth into custody for questioning. Authorities have launched an investigation into the matter to verify the claims made by the Bajrang Dal members and the allegations levelled against the accused.

As of now, the police have not released further details regarding the formal charges, noting that the investigation is in its preliminary stages. Security has been tightened in the surrounding areas to prevent any further escalation of public unrest.
