Man Missing in Jatinga River After Birthday Outing, Search Operation Continues

A young man has gone missing after reportedly being swept away while bathing in the Jatinga River area during a birthday outing at Bandarkhal Durbin Tila under Borkhola Police Station in Cachar district. Police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) continued the search operation on Sunday (August 30), but he had not been traced by the time of reporting.

The missing man has been identified as Nitai Das, also known as Vicky, son of Manindra Das of Silchar.

According to local sources, Nitai had visited the Bandarkhal Durbin Tila area on Saturday to celebrate his birthday with his girlfriend. During the outing, he reportedly entered the water at Debi Nala to bathe.

Witnesses said he slipped and was pulled towards a deeper part of the water. Due to the strong current, he reportedly disappeared from view within moments.

Local residents rushed to the spot and attempted to rescue him, but were unable to locate him in the water. Barkhola Police were informed, following which police personnel and an SDRF team reached the area and launched a search operation.

Search and rescue efforts continued on Sunday in Debi Nala and nearby stretches of the river. However, more than 24 hours after the incident, Nitai had still not been found.

The incident has caused concern and grief among the family and residents of Silchar, while authorities continue efforts to trace the missing man.
