Mystery Deepens After Youth Admitted to Silchar Medical College With Gunshot Injuries
A 30-year-old youth from Cachar’s Borkhola area was admitted to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) with gunshot injuries to the chest, under mysterious circumstances. He was brought to the hospital by unidentified individuals on the early morning of Monday (late Sunday night). The injured youth has been identified as Sahid Ahmed Laskar, a resident of Buribail Part II under Borkhola Police Station.
According to sources, Sahid was brought to the medical facility late at night with bullet wounds, but the identity of the person or persons who brought him remains unknown. What adds to the mystery is that neither the hospital authorities nor the family members have been able to provide details about how or where the shooting took place.
Speaking to the press on Monday, Cachar police confirmed that they were informed by the SMCH authorities about Sahid’s admission with gunshot injuries. An investigation has been started to ascertain how and where the youth was shot.
Unverified sources claim that Sahid was shot at the bypass area in Silchar’s Ramnagar locality around midnight. However, police have not confirmed this version of events.
Sahid’s family members, too, are tight-lipped about the incident. “He left home on Sunday morning. Late at night, someone called us to say that he had met with an accident. A while later, the same person called again and said he had been shot. When we rushed to SMCH, we found him under treatment,” a family member said.
When asked who brought the injured man to the hospital, SMCH Superintendent Dr Debkumar Chakraborty declined to comment. “It is against protocol to reveal patient details. We will provide necessary information to the police as per the rules,” he said.
As of now, Sahid remains under medical supervision and police are continuing their investigation to unravel the circumstances behind the incident.
