Body of missing municipality inspector Ranjan Pada Deb recovered; Congress demands Niharendra Thakur’s resignation

Municipality Mechanical Inspector, Ranjanpada Deb had called his son Ratnadeep Deb yesterday to let him know that he is jumping in Barak River in order to kill himself, since then he has been missing. His family member and other senior officials visited various banks of Barak River to find out if he has actually jumped in the river.
Well sadly, it turns out that he actually did jump in the river and kill himself. His body has been recovered today afternoon (1:00PM) from ‘Bishorjon ghat’ in ‘Sadarghat’ Silchar. Search operation was on since last night after Bishorjon ghat security guard Hari Das confirmed that he saw Ranjan Deb on the bank of the river speaking over phone. Police had also recovered Deb’s pair of shoes and glasses last evening at around 8 PM.
Deb is a leader of the Municipality Union which has been demonstrating since a long time in demand of clearance of their wages. The Silchar Municipality Board employees has not been getting their salaries since last six months.
Niharendra Thakur, chairman, Silchar Municipality Board expressing his views on the sad incident said, “Ranjan Deb had lost his mental stability and hence resorted to do something like this.” Congress has come out to shame the current state of affairs in Silchar Municipality Board and issued a demand for Niharendra Thakur’s resignation as chairman of Silchar Municipality Board.
54 year old Ranjan Pada Deb lived with his wife Moni Deb and son Ratnadeep Deb. His last words to his son over phone was, “Ami aar baari phirbo naa, Maa ke dekhe rakhish,” (I won’t return home ever again, take care of your mother.)”
