NIAIMT and NIT Silchar Ink MoU to Boost Skill Development in Barak Valley
In an exciting move for Barak Valley’s engineering students, two leading institutions, National Institute for Automotive Inspection Maintenance and Training, Silchar (NIAIMIT-NATRiP) and National Institute of Technology (NIT), Silchar, have joined forces to improve skill development and boost research in automotive and transportation engineering. The partnership aims to bring advanced learning and innovation closer to students and professionals in this field.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was officially signed on June 23, 2025, between Dr Asim Roy, Registrar of NIT Silchar, and Dr Aninda Bijoy Paul, Senior Advisor and Site Head of NIAIMT Silchar. The event was held in the presence of NIT-Silchar Director Dr Dilip Kumar Baidya, Mokaddes Ali Ahmed from the Civil Engineering Department, and other senior officials from both institutes. The agreement sets the stage for future cooperation in sharing knowledge, infrastructure, and technological resources.
The collaboration is aimed at strengthening skill development programmes and promoting research in the areas of transportation safety, driver behaviour, and automotive systems. It also seeks to nurture interest in scientific and engineering research among young learners. By working together, the institutes hope to create more learning opportunities and prepare the region’s youth for careers in rapidly changing technological sectors.
This agreement is not just a formal tie-up—it means both institutes will now work closely to share expertise, use each other’s facilities, and support one another in projects that benefit the local community and beyond. It is expected to bring about practical benefits like better job training, safer transport solutions, and increased innovation in the automotive industry.
The press release described the initiative as a “cornerstone to boost regional development and nurture the inquisitiveness among learners to perform research & development works related to the automotive domain & transportation engineering.” It also noted that this is the first time such a major partnership has been formed between two premier institutes in the Barak Valley.
