Nihar Ranjan Das Levels Serious Allegations Against Parimal Suklabaidya After Quitting BJP, Says ‘Greed For Rasgollas Cost Me Dholai

In a dramatic political fallout ahead of the Assam Legislative Assembly elections, former Dholai MLA Nihar Ranjan Das on March 19 launched a scathing attack on Silchar MP (Lok Sabha) and senior BJP leader Parimal Suklabaidya after being denied a party ticket. Das also made it clear that he would contest elections despite the fallout and is going to file his nomination by the end of this month.

Hours after the BJP fielded Amiya Kanti Das from Dholai, Nihar Ranjan resigned from the party and openly blamed Suklabaidya for the decision.

“I have not been given the ticket and Parimal Suklabaidya has a role in this. He went to Delhi and said that if Amiya Kanti doesn’t get the ticket, then Parimal Suklabaidya would resign from the party. As a senior member, the party kept his words,” Das alleged.

He, however, acknowledged Suklabaidya’s past support, saying, “I do accept that in the last election, I got the ticket because of him and I won’t forget that. But just 15 days after winning the by-election, there was a fallout between us.”

Making serious allegations, Das claimed financial irregularities in development projects. “There is a rule that for every Model Anganwadi centre there should be one chairperson. But he made one person his choice, Bibhas Deb, as the chairman for all centres. That is how money gets diverted,” he alleged getting shares from this sanctioned money meant for primary level education.

He further added, “One contractor told me he got 34 PHE works and gave ‘90 rasgollas’ to kaku (Parimal Suklabaidya). Another asked me what kind of sweets I like. This ‘give and take’ relationship is the reason behind everything.”

In a sharp remark, Das said, “The only reason why I am now on his bad books is because of his greed for rasgollas”.

Another sharp criticism he labelled against current Silchar MP Parimal Suklabaidya is that, “Whenever we meet at any meeting, he would directly or indirectly criticise or insult me. But I have always praised him, whereas Amiya Kanti Das had called him ‘worthless’ and still got the ticket. The only reason why I am now on his bad books is because of his greed for rasgollas”.

Despite the setback, he made it clear that he will remain in the fray. “I will contest elections. I will file my nomination on March 30,” he said.

The development has intensified political tensions in Dholai, with the BJP’s candidate change now triggering internal rifts just days before the elections.

Assam goes for poll on April 9 in single phase.
