NIT Silchar Professor Takes Charge as Principal of BVEC Sribhumi

Dr Krishna Lal Baishnab, a professor from the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar, has assumed charge as the Principal of Barak Valley Engineering College (BVEC), Sribhumi. He formally joined the institution on May 29, 2026.

Dr Baishnab brings extensive experience in teaching, research and academic administration. During his tenure at NIT Silchar, he contributed to the development of the Electronics and Communication Engineering department and was involved in various academic and institutional activities.

The college stated that his appointment is expected to strengthen technical education in the Barak Valley region. The institution expressed confidence that his leadership and academic vision would help promote quality education, research and innovation.

Dr Baishnab has said that he is committed to improving academic standards, encouraging collaboration with industry and creating a student-centred learning environment at the college.

Faculty members, staff and students of the institution have welcomed the new principal and expressed hope for the overall development of the college under his leadership.

Barak Valley Engineering College is the first state government engineering college in the Barak Valley region and the fifth state engineering college in Assam. The initiative to establish the college was taken by the Government of Assam in 2009, and the institution began full-fledged operations in 2017 under the Directorate of Technical Education, Assam.

Located at Nirala in Sribhumi district, the college campus spreads across around 60 bighas of land and is surrounded by hills and greenery. The institution currently offers Bachelor of Engineering programmes in Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. It is affiliated with Assam Science and Technology University and approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
