Pangram Blast Update: Factory Owner Arrested, Brought to Silchar for Questioning

The owner of the rod manufacturing factory where a deadly explosion claimed four lives in Pangram under Udharbond has been arrested as the investigation into the incident gathers pace.

Police arrested Rakesh Kumar Surana (63) from Guwahati and brought him to Silchar by flight on Monday (July 27). He is currently being interrogated at Udharbond Police Station in connection with the blast.

According to police, Surana has been arrested over allegations of negligence at the factory that allegedly led to the explosion. Investigators are examining whether mandatory industrial safety norms were followed at the unit at the time of the incident.

Apart from the factory owner, four others who were earlier detained have also been arrested in the case. They have been identified as Alok Kumar Tiwari (34) of Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, Amichand Jangir (62) of Udharbond, Cachar, Rama Kant Singh (35) of Muzaffarpur, Bihar, and Shamim Akthar (35) of Chhapra, Bihar.

The explosion occurred on Sunday (July 26) at the Pangram factory in Cachar district, killing four workers and injuring several others. The exact cause of the blast has not yet been officially established, and multiple investigations are underway.

Police have registered an FIR and are continuing their investigation. A Forensic Science Laboratory team is also expected to examine the site to determine the cause of the explosion and whether safety regulations were violated. Authorities said further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
