Partha Protim Das Returns as Cachar SSP in Major Assam Police Reshuffle

The Assam Government has appointed IPS officer Partha Protim Das as the new Superintendent of Police (SP) of Cachar as part of a major reshuffle of senior police officers across the state.

The order, issued by the Home (A) Department on Friday (August 7), stated that Das has been transferred from Nagaon and posted as the Superintendent of Police, Cachar. He replaces APS officer Sanjib Kumar Saikia, who has been transferred as Commandant of the 20th Assam Police Battalion at Panbari in Dhubri district.

The posting marks the return of Partha Protim Das to Cachar, where he had earlier served as the district’s Senior Superintendent of Police. On March 2, 2026, the Assam Government transferred him from Cachar to Nagaon as SSP. At that time, Sanjib Kumar Saikia was posted to Cachar as his successor. With the latest reshuffle, Das has once again been entrusted with leading the Cachar district police.

The reshuffle also affects another officer serving in Cachar. Rajat Kumar Pal, IPS, who was serving as Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime), Cachar, has been transferred and posted as Assistant Inspector General of Police (AP), Dergaon. He has also been given the additional charge of NCFL and APMES (112), Dergaon.

The notification includes transfers and new postings of several Inspector Generals of Police, Deputy Inspector Generals of Police, Superintendents of Police and other senior officers across Assam. No changes have been made to the senior police leadership in the neighbouring Barak Valley districts of Sribhumi and Hailakandi.

According to the government notification, all transfers and postings will take effect from the dates on which the officers assume charge of their new assignments.
