Police Arrest Silchar Youth For Alleged Blackmail, Rape Of Homemaker

A 24-year-old youth identified as Rajat Das, also known as Manna, from Kanakpur Part-II in Silchar, has been arrested for allegedly blackmailing and repeatedly raping a homemaker from the same locality.

According to the FIR, the accused had been allegedly eyeing the woman for several days with wrong intentions. One day, taking advantage of a moment when she was alone, he allegedly forced himself on her and recorded nude photos of her on his mobile phone. Police said the woman told investigators that Rajat later used these images to blackmail her and continued to sexually assault her over several days against her will.

When she resisted further advances, the accused allegedly threatened to leak the photos and forced her to submit. After enduring the alleged abuse for a long time, the homemaker finally approached the police and lodged a formal complaint.

Based on her statement, a case was registered, and Rajat was arrested on Saturday, November 15. He was produced before the court on Sunday, following which the police were granted custody for interrogation. The accused has since been remanded to jail.

However, a close associate of Rajat has claimed that the allegations are “completely false”, stating that the accused had known the woman’s family for a long time and that their relationship had soured recently due to a personal dispute.
