Radhamadhab Nagar Kali Puja Enters 59th Year, ‘Baro Mashe Tero Parbon’ Theme to Be the Highlight

Radhamadhab Nagar Kali Puja Committee is set to celebrate its 59th year with a unique pandal theme showcasing Bengali culture and traditions. This year’s arrangements will feature the popular Bengali concept of ‘Baro Mashe Tero Parbon’, along with a water fountain and a special thematic presentation of the traditional Horo Gouri Charak Mela.

Located near the temple pond at Radhamadhab Nagar, the pandal is being designed to offer visitors a glimpse of Bengal’s rich cultural heritage and its year-round festivities. The theme ‘Baro Mashe Tero Parbon’, which literally means 13 festivals in 12 months, reflects the Bengali tradition of celebrating numerous festivals and occasions throughout the year. Through this presentation, the organisers aim to highlight the region’s folk culture and traditional celebrations.

A special attraction this year will be the Horo Gouri Charak Mela theme, which will be presented near the main pandal of Goddess Kali through a thematic show. The presentation will focus on the traditional Charak festival, an important part of Bengal’s rural folk traditions and religious practices.

A committee member said that the organisers make an effort to present something new to visitors every year. In previous editions, the committee had showcased themes such as Samudra Manthan and an old-age home, among other concepts. Last year, the committee presented a Kumbh Mela theme. Continuing this tradition, the organisers have introduced a fresh cultural concept this year.

The idol of Goddess Kali will be crafted by local artist Shyamal Paul in a traditional style. Special lighting arrangements are also being planned, with Piklu Das from Dholai handling the illumination work. Sridam Malakar will be responsible for the sound system.

The committee has also announced a change in its entertainment schedule. No special shows will be held on Kali Puja day, Sunday, 8 November. Instead, visitors can enjoy the special shows on Monday and Tuesday, according to the organisers.

The puja is being organised by the office-bearers of Club Ekta. Bachchu Ghosh and Biplab Adhikari are part of the advisory committee, while Amitabha Pal is the president and Utpal Deb is the secretary.

Having completed 58 years, the committee is entering its 59th year with a commitment to preserving Bengali culture and folk traditions. The organisers hope that this year’s combination of traditional festivities, the water fountain and the Horo Gouri Charak Mela presentation will offer visitors a distinctive experience.

The committee has invited residents of the town and visitors from across the region to join the celebrations and extend their support to make the event a success.
