Rs. 5 Crore Drug Haul: Cachar Police Seize Narcotics, 3 Arrested After Bus Chase

In a major bust, Cachar Police seized illegal narcotics and contraband items worth over Rs. 5 crore from a passenger bus (MN-01A-0484) at Silchar Bypass near ISBT, Ramnagar on Friday. Acting on a tip-off received three days ago, a special team led by Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta had been on alert in Lailapur. The intercepted bus was reportedly travelling from Churachandpur, Manipur via Mizoram.

SP Numal Mahatta said, “About 3 days ago, we received secret intel about this MN (Manipur) registered bus, which was coming from Churachandpur, Manipur. Since then, our special team have been in Lailapur, scouting for it and just this morning, we followed and intercepted the vehicle.” He added that the suspects attempted to flee by overspeeding while on the bypass but were eventually stopped.

Upon inspection, the police recovered over 3 kilograms of narcotic substances, imported Burmese cigarettes, and a product called “Godzilla” used as mosquito repellent coil, all moved in haste, allegedly to scam unsuspecting customers. A preliminary test using the Drug Detection Kit confirmed the presence of morphine.

Three individuals, Saidul Rahman, Nasir Khan, and Kamtiangsang, were arrested by the police team. SP Mahatta confirmed that all the illegal items were seized following proper legal procedures and that the estimated value of the recovered contraband could exceed Rs. 5 crore in the black market. Further interrogation is underway.
