
Sonai: Man killed after speeding car crashes into roadside eatery
An unfortunate incident led to the death of a 30-year-old man after a speeding car lost control and crashed into a roadside fast-food stall along National Highway 306 near Saidpur under Sonai constituency on Saturday (28 February) evening.
The deceased has been identified as Shyamal Das (30), a resident of Saidpur Part-IV. According to eyewitnesses, the incident took place at around 5:30 pm near Charkisha Mokam, where Das was sitting beside a roadside eatery along the Silchar–Aizawl road.
A car bearing registration number AS 11P 0587, coming from the Silchar side, allegedly lost control and rammed directly into the stall. The impact was so severe that a large donation box placed beside the shop was shattered into pieces.
Das sustained critical head and body injuries and died on the spot, locals said. Hearing the loud crash, nearby residents rushed to the scene and informed the police.
Police from Sadar Police Station reached the spot soon after and recovered the body. His body has been sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination. The vehicle involved in the crash has been seized.
Visuals from the scene show the extensive damage to the car and the roadside stall it struck. Das was found lying beside the stall with devastating crush injuries. The sudden death has left the victim’s family and the locals of the area in deep shock and mourning.
