Sonai Murder Horror: Woman Found Half-Naked in Paddy Field, Father-In-Law Confesses To Killing

Weeks after the shocking recovery of a half-naked body from a paddy field in Sonai under Cachar district, police have now arrested a 57-year-old man accused of killing his daughter-in-law. The case, which had created widespread fear and anger in the locality, has now taken a major turn with the arrest and alleged confession of the primary suspect.

Police identified the arrested man as Norom Ali, a resident of the same area. According to investigators, he was detained during routine questioning based on suspicion raised by the family and villagers. During interrogation, police claim that the elderly man admitted to killing the victim, Monowara Begum.

The incident took place on November 23, when Monowara went missing after she went to collect grass for cattle. Her body was discovered the following morning inside a paddy field close to her home, with her hands tied and her clothes in a disturbed condition. Family members had immediately suspected rape and murder.

Police launched a detailed investigation with the help of a forensic team, a sniffer dog squad and senior officials. Initially, no major clues were found, which increased tension in the area.

According to police sources, the arrested man told officers that he had been angry because he believed Monowara had a close relationship with another man in the village. Police stated that he confessed to attacking her with a sickle when he found her alone in the paddy field.

Police have now formally arrested him and further investigation is underway. They are verifying all statements and gathering additional evidence to confirm whether others were involved. The post-mortem findings and forensic reports will guide the next steps of the investigation.

On November 24, when Monowara Begum’s body was first discovered in the paddy field, family members and villagers found polythene stuffed inside her mouth and her hands tied. Her clothes were in a disturbed condition, which raised strong suspicion of rape and murder. The family had immediately alleged foul play.

With the recent confession made by the arrested accused, their fears have now been confirmed.
