Sribhumi Police Detain Class 11 Student From School With Country-Made Pistol

In a shocking incident, a Class 11 student of Frontier Senior Secondary School, Sribhumi, was detained on Saturday (August 30), after a country-made pistol was found in his possession during school hours.

According to the school principal, the matter came to light when Economics teacher Sushovan Das noticed the student repeatedly putting his hands inside his pocket. Suspecting that he was carrying a mobile phone—which is strictly banned inside the school compound—the teacher frisked him. To his horror, what he initially thought to be a phone turned out to be a pistol.

Startled by the discovery, the teacher immediately informed school principal Swapan Debnath, who rushed to the classroom. The school authority then alerted Sadar Police Station, Sribhumi, and also informed the student’s parents.

During preliminary questioning, the student, an Arts stream pupil, claimed that the weapon was handed over to him by a masked man outside the school premises. He further alleged that the man threatened to kill him and his father if he revealed the matter to anyone. The motive behind the pistol’s possession remains unclear.

Speaking to reporters, Principal Debnath said, “We have called police for an investigation into the matter, and they have taken him and the pistol into their custody for further investigation.”

The student’s father was also taken to the police station for questioning. Meanwhile, Sribhumi Police have launched a probe to ascertain how the pistol reached the boy.

Later, police sources told reporters that the pistol, which was first rumoured to be a firearm, turned out to be an airgun. After providing counselling to the student, the student was let go with the parents.
