Sribhumi Police Seizes Heroin Worth Rs 6 Crore, Arrests Three Peddlers

In a major crackdown on narcotics, Sribhumi Police seized 870 grams of suspected heroin valued at approximately Rs 6 crore during an anti-narcotics operation in the Lalpool area under Nilambazar Police Station.

Acting on credible intelligence, the operation was carried out by the Sribhumi Police team led by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Partha Protim Das, which intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number TR-01M-2262. The heroin, packed in 76 soap boxes, was found concealed in a secret chamber of the vehicle. The car was reportedly coming from Champhai district in Mizoram—an area often flagged as a drug transit point.

Three individuals were apprehended in connection with the case, including 19-year-old Sahel Alom Laskar, son of Nazim Uddin Laskar, a resident of Joshnapar under Lala Police Station in Hailakandi district; 20-year-old Iftiar Ahemdabad Laskar, son of Ali Hussain Laskar, a resident of Hati Sijubari, Bishnu Jyoti Rabha Path, under Hatigaon Police Station; and 24-year-old Sabbir Ahmed, son of Md Burhan Uddin, a resident of Defolala under Patharkandi Police Station.

SSP Partha Protim Das informed that legal procedures have been initiated to trace both forward and backward linkages in the narcotics supply chain.

Applauding the successful bust, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to X (formerly Twitter), stating,

The seizure marks another significant step in Assam Police’s continued efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks operating in the region.
