Two More Fake Doctor’s Arrest in Cachar Raises Tally to 17; Police Share Helpline for Public Tip-Offs
In yet another step towards their ongoing crackdown on fake doctors, Cachar Police have arrested two individuals posing as medical practitioners in separate incidents on consecutive days. This raised the tally of fake doctors arrested since August to 17.
On November 1, 2025, acting on a reliable input, police nabbed 42-year-old Supal Roy, of Chotojalenga Part II under Dwarbond Police Station. He was caught red-handed while practising as a doctor at his pharmacy located at Rosekandy Tea Estate under the same police station. Police said he ran a pharmacy with an attached doctor’s chamber where he examined patients and issued prescriptions. Legal action has been initiated against him.
The next day, on November 2, police again acted on a tip-off and apprehended another fake doctor identified as Indrajit Roy, aged 39, of Tatpara, Samuktala in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal. He had been working as a “visiting doctor” at Maa Ayurved, located at E&D Colony in Tarapur, Silchar. Police confirmed that he held no medical certification and was treating patients illegally.
During a press briefing, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Subrata Sen said that the operation to take down quack doctors is ongoing. “Recently, we caught two more such doctors. One of them, Supal Roy, was practising at Rosekandy Tea Estate with his own pharmacy and chamber. We caught him red-handed and recovered prescriptions and documents issued by him. The other, Indrajit Roy, was attending patients at Maa Ayurved in Tarapur. Both are now in custody,” he said.
ASP Sen further appreciated the dedication of the Cachar Police in the mission to eliminate fake doctors from the region. He informed that so far, around 17 such quack doctors have been arrested and that the operation will continue. He urged citizens to report any information about fake doctors by messaging the Cachar Police Crime Branch on 6026903329.
Police said such fake practitioners pose serious risks to public health, and strict legal action will be taken against anyone found practising medicine without proper qualification.
