Two successful brain operations: “Historical moment,” Principal; “Come to SMCH to consult neurosurgeon,” DC
Marking a historical moment for Barak Valley, Dr. Sambuddha Dhar and his team performed two neurosurgeries at Silchar Medical College and Hospital today.
12-year-old Sanaul Haque had fallen from a height and was badly injured. The team operated on a clot that was formed in his brain. Another patient who met with a road traffic accident, 40-year-old Ajijur Rahman was operated on too. The principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital informed that both the operations were successful but the patients have been kept under close observation.
“It is after three years of relentless and collective efforts from the Hospital management, district administration and the government of Assam, we have seen this day,” said Dr. Babul Bezbaruah, principal cum chief superintendent of Silchar Medical College and Hospital.
He added, “We are grateful to Dr. Sambuddha Dhar for joining us under the special arrangement. A couple of years back, the government agreed to sign another doctor but he did not join. We are grateful to the chief minister of Assam. When he was the health minister, he had said that the government will sign blank cheques if needed, to get a neurosurgeon for the people of Barak Valley.”
The Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, Keerthi Jalli visited Silchar Medical College and Hospital to congratulate Dr. Sambuddha Dhar and his team. She too lauded the collective efforts and thanked the chief minister of Assam Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, guardian minister of Cachar, Ashok Singhal, Principal Secretary – Department of Health, Anurag Goel. “It is a matter of pride for us and a great relief for the 40 lakh population of Barak Valley. We had to send patients to Guwahati and other regions as we did not have a specialist to facilitate neurosurgery. Two operations have been successfully conducted today and I congratulate the team. I appeal to the people of Barak Valley, please come to SMCH and avail facilities available,” said Keerthi Jalli.
She also distributed sweets among the doctors to celebrate the occasion. Dr. Babul Bezbaruah thanked the deputy commissioner for her gesture. Dr. Sambudhha Dhar will be available for consultation at the Out-Patient Department of SMCH from November 2, twice a week on every Tuesday and Friday.
Dr. Bezbaruah said that the facility needs certain improvements and he has already approached the State Government for the same. Dr. Dhar is a specialist neurosurgeon who can operate, brain, spine and treat other complex neurological complications.
