
Zubeen Garg’s Mortal Remains to Arrive in Assam on Saturday, Public Tribute at Sarusajai: CM Sarma
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday (September 19) informed that the mortal remains of legendary singer Zubeen Garg will be brought back from Singapore to New Delhi by Saturday evening, and later to Guwahati the same night.
Speaking to the media after visiting the late artist’s residence in Guwahati, the Chief Minister said, “In Guwahati, we will keep him at Sarusajai for a day so that people can pay their tributes. The family will decide whether he will be brought back to their residence, in which case only family members can offer tributes. The general public can pay their respects at Sarusajai.”
He further added that several people have expressed their wish for Zubeen Garg to be cremated and a memorial built in Jorhat. “We have not thought on these matters yet. The government will discuss his cremation and samadhi with the people and take a decision,” Sarma said.
Zubeen Garg was declared dead at Singapore General Hospital on Thursday at 5:20 PM Singapore time (2:30 PM IST), the Chief Minister confirmed.
Heartthrob Zubeen Garg, who had travelled to Singapore to attend the 4th North East India Festival at Suntec, tragically passed away on September 19. According to reports, during a cruise party, he first jumped into the sea to swim with a life jacket, later returned to the yacht, removed it, and went back into the water, where he reportedly suffered seizures and collapsed. His untimely demise has left the entire region in mourning, with thousands pouring in heartfelt tributes and memories of the beloved icon, remembering him not only as a musical legend but also as the cultural heartbeat of Assam.
