22-Year-Old Worker Dies After Electric Shock at Udharbond Construction Site

A 22-year-old construction worker died after reportedly coming into contact with electricity while trying to fix a light bulb at a building under construction in an area known as Shibu Jangal in Udharbond in Assam’s Cachar district.

The deceased has been identified as Biswajit Keot, a resident of Digor Kashipur in Cachar.

According to information available, Keot was working at the construction site when it became dark in the evening. He reportedly went to fix a bulb to provide lighting at the site and came into contact with an electrical connection.

His cousin said the family was informed that Keot slipped and fell over the bulb, after which he died at the spot.

“He is my aunt’s son. He was working here. His mother is at home and his father passed away almost a decade ago,” the cousin said.

The cousin added that Keot had got married around a year ago and had a married brother as well.

According to the family, Keot had been working at the building on the day of the incident as part of casting work, locally known as ‘Dhalai’, which involves pouring cement and related construction work.

Following the incident, police reached the spot and recovered the body. The body was subsequently sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination.

The incident has left the deceased’s family and the local community in mourning. Police proceedings are underway. The exact circumstances that led to the electric shock are yet to be officially established.
