“We Have Made a Mistake Voting for You”: Borkhola MLA Faces Public Fury Amid Flood Crisis
Among the many places in the Cachar district, Borkhola too faced the wrath of nature as continuous rainfall led to flooding in several low-lying areas of the constituency. In an attempt to assess the situation, Borkhola MLA Misbahul Islam Laskar visited different parts of his constituency. However, his visit was met with sharp criticism from local residents.
On Tuesday, June 3, MLA Misbahul Islam Laskar went to take stock of the conditions in flood-affected areas of Borkhola. While visiting Ujangram, Borjoatrapur, he faced public outrage regarding the poor road conditions that have long plagued the area. Frustrated locals questioned the state of infrastructure and demanded answers from the MLA about the utilisation of constituency development funds.
As he was returning after visiting a relief camp in Ujangram, some residents stopped his vehicle and confronted him over the deteriorated road conditions. They asked where the funds allocated for development had been used. Sensing rising tension and the possibility of the situation escalating, the MLA eventually left the location.
During the confrontation, one person was heard saying, “We have made a mistake voting for you.” This reaction echoed similar sentiments shared by residents of Durgapur near Ranighat a week prior to the floods. There too, people had demanded accountability from the MLA regarding the poor condition of roads and the use of development funds.
