All Cachar Medicine Retail and Wholesalers Association Forms New Team, Schedule H/H1 and Drug Licence Awareness Gets Focus

The All Cachar Medicine Retail and Wholesalers Association (ACMA) has formed a new 24-member executive committee for the 2026-2029 term at its triennial general meeting held in Silchar on September 27.

Karuna Sindhu Dey has been elected as the president, while Arindom Bhattacharjee has been elected as the general secretary. Ajit Kumar Deb will serve as the treasurer.

The meeting was held at the Cachar Club Meeting Hall in Club Road, Silchar, where discussions were also held on issues concerning medicine retailers and wholesalers.

The awareness programme placed particular emphasis on drug licences and the requirements related to Schedule H and H1 medicines. Medicine retailers and wholesale traders were advised to remain aware of the relevant requirements.

The new office bearers also include Anoop Dutta as organising secretary, Sanjay Chakraborty as working president, Mithun Roy, Ananda Ghosh and Arkayoti Deblala as vice-presidents, Prasanta Paul and Sushankar Debnath as joint secretaries and Indrajit Ghosh as assistant treasurer.

Rudra Narayan Gupta, Monotosh Paul and Nirmal Deb have been named as advisers, while Debasish Das will serve as internal auditor.

The meeting also featured felicitation of differently abled sportspersons and members of the organisation ‘Era Amader’. The association’s souvenir, ‘Niramay’, was also formally unveiled during the programme.

The programme was also graced by the presence of Silchar MP Parimal Suklabaidya and former Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty.

Addressing the gathering, Silchar MP spoke about the important role played by medicine retailers and pharmacists in ensuring access to essential medicines, particularly in rural and remote areas. Sharing an anecdote from village areas, he said that people often approach the local pharmacy directly for medicines as doctors may not always be readily available. He highlighted the role of medicine professionals in such communities and emphasised the need for responsible practices and awareness while serving the public.

The general meeting followed the notice issued by the association on August 26, which listed the election or selection of office bearers and governing body members for the 2026-2029 term, along with an awareness programme and discussions on trade-related issues among the agenda items.

The executive committee includes representatives from different parts of Cachar district, including Silchar, Pailapool, Joypur, Fulertal, Lakhipur, Kalain, Sonai, Dholai, Udharbond, Rongpur, Meherpur, Ganirgram, Ramnagar and Katigorah.
